ONE South Tipperary branch have asked the public for support for Irish veterans who will doing a sleep out fundraiser for the charity in Waterford City on December 23.

ONE’s primary objective is to support the needs of Irish veterans by the provision of accommodation to homeless veterans in its Veterans’ Homes and the provision of other advice and support to veterans through its nationwide network of Branches and Veterans’ Support Centres.

ONE’s services are available to all veterans of the Defence Forces. ONE currently provides accommodation (board and lodging) for approximately 51 veterans, who otherwise would be homeless, in its four residential homes in Cobh, Athlone, Dublin and Letterkenny.

ONE has created a nationwide network of Veteran’s Support Centres and is developing a 6-bedroom facility in Cork City leading to the availability of 57 single rooms for homeless veterans.

ONE currently employs 5 professional Veteran Support Officers who provide support to our Veterans in many areas but the focus is supporting Veterans who have Mental Health difficulties. ONE also unashamedly advocates in support of veterans, particularly on behalf of those who are less fortunate.

Veterans of the Irish Defence Forces alongside supporters will be sleeping out in Waterford City from Monday 23rd to the 24th December. They will also be collecting in the city from 9am on December 23rd to 6 pm on the 24th of December.

The purpose of this is to experience not only what our former comrades have to endure daily but to highlight the issues of Veteran Homelessness and the associated mental health difficulties that they face daily.
