After decades of worldwide touring and recording, The Fureys will play their final 105 concerts throughout Ireland, the UK and the content, announcing one show for Tipperary as part of the band's final tour.

The much-loved band will play one last gig in Tipperary on October 24 in Cashel's Brú Ború Theatre.

The group explained the decision to retire in a statement today. "Having spent several decades touring the world since the 1970’s, on Thursday October 2 we will begin our 105 date Farewell tour ending in Dublin’s Vicar St on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 May.

"Having been talking about it for a few years with our long time manager, Joe McCadden, we believe the time is right. It’s not easy to make a decision like this but time catches up with us all.

"Starting out in our teenage years, we never believed the success that lay ahead for us. We have had an unbelievable career and none of it could have happened without the encouragement of our parents Ted and Nora, both very talented musicians and our families who have taken care of everything while we were on the road.

"We have had the most loyal supporters possible, some who have been coming to see us for many years and now come with their adult children and grandchildren.

"We have had brilliant musicians, sound engineers and roadies traveling the long journeys with us and in the recording studio, Terry Bradford. On this final journey we have Camillus, Tony, Sean and Martin with us.

"As we start our final tour, four people we would like to mention at this time are our brother Paul who passed away 23 years ago, Davey Arthur who sadly had a stroke while on tour with us 11 years ago and had to retire from the band, our roadie Derek (Detser) Murtagh who passed away 4 years ago during Covid and our Bass player Derek McCormack who passed away 21 Years ago while on a Caribbean cruise," said the band.
