Members of the Raparee Cycle Club will undertake the gruelling challenge in June
A gruelling fundraiser will take place in Tipperary this summer, with keen cyclists taking on an over 350 kilometer cycle in just 24 hours.
The Raparee Cycle Club will make the 360km trek across Munster in aid of the Dillon Quirke Foundation, with the challenge getting underway from the Dillon Quirke GAA grounds in Clonoulty on June 7.
The route will take the cyclists towards Killaloe in Clare, then on through Limerick City toward Abbeyfeale into County Kerry. The group will then head towards Mallow in Cork, and on through Fermoy and into Ballyduff in County Waterford.
The group will then veer back towards Mitchelstown and on through Cashel before finishing back in Clonoulty after an incredible 360 kilometers of cycling in just one day.
Event organiser Michael White said that he created the event to support the Dillon Quirke Foundation's mission to make Irish sport safer for all its athletes.
"Our aim is to help the foundation by both helping to create awareness and raise vital funds to continue the incredible work being done," Mr White said.
Dillon Quirke was just 24 years old when he collapsed and died during a hurling match on August 5 2022, at Semple Stadium in Thurles.
Dillon died from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, which takes the lives of 2 young people every week in Ireland.
Dillon’s family wanted to do something to protect other young players and their families from the devastation of SADS, and so the Dillon Quirke Foundation was born.
