A TD in Tipperary has welcomed confirmation of significant progress on the long-awaited extension at Scoil Aonghusa, Cashel.

Fine Gael Deputy Michael Murphy said that the project will deliver 14 new special education classrooms and essential ancillary facilities to the school in Cashel.

The new classrooms have been long-awaited by parents of children with special needs as capacity at the school is limited due to a lack of space.

The project will create new classrooms and also replace temporary ones at the school.

Deputy Murphy said, “Scoil Aonghusa is a centre of educational excellence, and delivering this extension has been central to my work with the school leadership and the Department. I am pleased to confirm that the project is now moving into the next phase.”

Lidan Construction has been selected as the design-build contractor, with Healy Architects leading the design team. The Department is currently finalising procurement and site considerations, which will allow the contractor to be formally appointed and the design process to begin.

Designs are expected to be ready for Local Authority review in early 2026. Subject to planning approval, on-site and off-site construction will proceed in parallel, with delivery of the new accommodation anticipated in early 2027.

“This project will greatly strengthen special education provision in Cashel, and I will continue working closely with all involved to ensure timely progress,” concluded Deputy Murphy.
