Tipperary South TD Mattie McGrath said it was a “wonderful privilege” for himself and his wife Margaret to meet Pope Leo XIV recently while attending the International Catholic Legislators Conference in Rome earlier this year.

Deputy McGrath said he took the opportunity to invite the Pope to return to south Tipperary, which he previously visited in 2005 during his time as General of the Augustinian Order for the 700th anniversary of Fethard Abbey.

He described the meeting as a wonderful day and a great privilege, saying the pontiff was humble, kind and engaging.
