Five Rockwell College exchange students were treated to a nice surprise in France recently when Pau rugby star and Cashel native Paddy Butler brought them to a team party.
The thrilled Tipperary students got to meet the Pau team, posing for photographs with Clonmel’s Dave Foley, the All Blacks Conrad Smith and Jamie Mackintosh, and former England international Steffon Armitage.
The Rockwell students were well looked after by Foley and Butler for over an hour, departing with warm hearts and autographed jerseys. ‘I couldn’t believe how sound they were,” smiled Kilsheelan student Daire Murphy.
While the memorable experience was a surprise to the students, it was no coincidence as Rockwell transition year coordinator Pat Egan organised the meeting unbeknownst to them.
The Rockwell students thoroughly enjoyed the three week French exchange with St Joseph’s in Nay, which included a day trip to Lourdes. This is the 10th year of the exchange between the two schools, with French exchange students set to sample Irish culture and life when they arrive at Rockwell in the coming days.
