MindField unveiled: Electric Picnic 2023 promises a feast of thought and entertainment

CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan has been announced as part of spoken word arena line-up

THE ANTICIPATION for this year's Electric Picnic festival just skyrocketed as the lineup for the much-loved MindField spoken word arena has been unveiled.

With an eclectic mix of thought-provoking discussions, insightful talks, captivating poetry, engaging podcasts, and so much more, festival-goers are in for a treat that promises to stimulate both the mind and the senses.

The MindField arena, nestled within the picturesque parkland of Stradbally Hall, is set to host an array of talent and thought leaders from various fields. From CNN's Donie O'Sullivan to comedian Aisling Bea, I'm Grand Mam, and Jenny Keane, this year's lineup is packed with personalities who are ready to engage, inspire, and entertain.

One of the highlights in the Leviathan tent is Salon du Chat's speed debating, where quick-witted thinkers will spar with words, while Miriam O'Callaghan's Sunday Brunch promises laughter and sharp insights. CNN's Donie O'Sullivan will take the reins at the Leviathan Political Cabaret, exploring the 25-year journey of the Good Friday Agreement through debates and performances.

Paddy Cullivan will present his hit show "The Murder of Wolfe Tone," and the History Ireland Hedge School will confront the rise of the far right in Ireland. A captivating lineup of musicians, spoken word artists, and cabaret performers will round off each evening at Leviathan.

The Manifesto Stage, curated by award-winning author and editor Sinéad Gleeson, offers a diverse range of conversations and performances. Noteworthy sessions include talks from Oscar-nominated director Colm Bairéad, Aisling Bea, and acclaimed journalist Carole Cadwalladr. The stage also delves into Ireland's trad and folk renaissance, survival in the arts, investigative journalism, and migration issues. The stage will be alive with discussions, laughter, and profound insights.

For podcast enthusiasts, the Ah, Hear! Podcast Stage will bring together some of Ireland's most popular podcasts under one roof. With a lineup boasting shows covering history, politics, sports, lifestyle, culture, and comedy, attendees can expect a true auditory delight. The likes of "The Blindboy Podcast," "Hold My Drink," and "Talking Bollox" will resonate with millions of listeners.

Additionally, the An Puball Gaeilge promises to celebrate the Irish language with a vibrant lineup of talks, theatre, podcasts, and music. From theatre productions for kids to discussions on the Irish language music scene and the rise of far-right politics, this stage offers a deep dive into various facets of Irish culture.

The Word Stage, orchestrated by Marty Mulligan, brings an eclectic mix of beats, rhymes, poetry, hip-hop, and grime. With performers like Jack Gaudet, Audible Chocolate, and Oscar Dunbarr, this stage will be a hub for creative expression and musical innovation.
