But just who is Michael Breen?

Here’s everything we know…

The Tipperary hurler was born on July 16, 1994, in Ballina.

Breen keeps his family life private, so not much is known about his early life.

Outside of sport, the 30-year-old is a teacher of Business and Geography at CBS High School in Clonmel.

The sportsman received a Liberal Arts and Science/Liberal Studies degree from University College Cork in 2016, and graduated with a Master’s degree in Food Business from the same university three years later.

In 2021, Breen also received a Diploma of Education from Dublin City University.

Breen’s hurling journey began at Castletroy College in Limerick, where he played in every grade of hurling.

He eventually joined the senior hurling team and lined out in several Harty Cup campaigns.

As a UCC student, Breen became involved in hurling as a member of the freshers’ team, joining the senior team in his second year.

Breen joined the Ballina club at a young age, and he played with the Tipperary minor hurlers in 2011 and 2012.

He won Munster and All-Ireland medals in 2012, and not long after, the hurler was playing for the Tipperary Under 21 hurlers.

Breen made his senior championship debut as a substitute in the 2015 Munster semi-final against Limerick and managed to score a goal against them.

Breen and Mawdsley kept their relationship private until the Premier County's win over Waterford in the county's final game of the Munster Championship.

Among the 28,758 attendees was Sharlene Mawdsley, who appeared to "hard launch" her relationship with Breen.

The 26-year-old shared a picture alongside Michael to Instagram on the Sunday evening, captioning the sweet snap: "Tippin’ on."

Tipperary sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley clocked a season's best in the women's 400m event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet in Zagreb, Croatia on Saturday and had a lovely surprise waiting for her back in her room.

The Tipperary athlete ran 51.14 but was pipped at the end as she finished second to Spain’s Paula Sevilla as Sharlene described it as a "race to be happy with" as she was almost one second faster than her run earlier in the week in Savona, Italy.
