Éanna Ní Lamhna will be a guest speaker at the Lismore Writing Festival
Éanna Ní Lamhna is a featured guest speaker at the Lismore Festival of Travel Writing (June 12 to 15).
She will give a talk exploring the richness of Biodiversity in Ireland and around the world, drawing on her travels through the
Rainforest of Costa Rica, the giant redwoods of California, New Zealand, and Tanzania.
With a distinguished career spanning science, broadcasting, and public education, Éanna is one of Ireland’s most influential voices on the environment. She has served as president of An Taisce and The Tree Council of Ireland, authored multiple books on biodiversity, and is well known for her contributions to Mooney Goes Wild and her weekly Irish Times column, Eye on Nature.

Bad Bridget
At Immrama, Historians Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick share stories from their best-selling book Bad Bridget, which explores the lives of Irish women who emigrated to North America in the 1800s. While some thrived, many-faced poverty, crime, and prison. In cities like Boston, New York, and Toronto, Irish women made up a large part of the female prison population.
Based on years of research and a popular podcast, Bad Bridget uncovers the hidden histories of women on the margins.
Dermod and Denis Dwyer, a father and son duo will discuss at Immrama their visit in 2024 to the five countries that make up The Levant.
They will explain why they went there, what they saw and learned. Their book is “Desert Bonds: A Father and Son’s Middle East Odyssey” is a deeply personal and timely travel memoir.
It recounts their 3,500-kilometre road trip across this historically rich and politically complex region, undertaken just months after the Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza. The journey spanned 22 days and took them through ancient cities, sacred religious sites, and communities shaped by both beauty and hardship.
Dermod is a businessman and Denis is a film producer and documentary maker.
Robert O’Byrne is an author and TV presenter. At Immrama, he will speak about his book “The Irish Aesthete: Buildings of Ireland, Lost and Found.
