Ed Sheeran, the Suffolk-born singer-songwriter behind some of the past decade’s most recognizable pop hits, has announced that he is preparing to relocate to the United States with his family.
Speaking on The 2 Johnnies Podcast, the thirty-four-year-old explained that the move is driven both by the demands of an upcoming U.S. tour and by his desire to settle rather than shuttle back and forth.
“I’m just about to move to America,” he said. “I feel like I might be the only person moving there right now. I’m going on tour for a while, and with a family, I can’t just dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”
Sheeran has hinted for some time that his long-term ambitions lie in Nashville, a city he has described as his favourite in the United States.
Earlier this year, he told the Call Her Daddy podcast that he intends to pivot toward country music, a shift he characterized as irreversible: “When you transition to country, you can’t transition back
The move comes amid Sheeran’s evolving sense of identity. In a June appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, he described himself as “culturally Irish,” despite being, as he noted, “obviously born and raised in Britain.”
Back in Suffolk, his primary residence has drawn attention for its distinctive features. Sheeran has had two pubs and a chapel built on the grounds, explaining that the pubs remain “tapped up, ready to rock,” serving as private gathering spaces away from the scrutiny of camera phones and social media.

Sheeran was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, before moving to Framingham Earl in Suffolk as a child. Beyond music, he holds a minority stake in Ipswich Town Football Club, which was relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2024–25 season.
Over the course of his career, Sheeran has achieved 14 UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. However, his next chapter, may be written not in Suffolk but in Nashville, at the heart of American country music.
