Award-winning Cork novelist, playwright and documentary filmmaker Cónal Creedon will bring his powerful play The Cure to this year’s Dromineer Nenagh Literary Festival. The production takes place at the Nenagh Arts Centre on Saturday, October 11th, at 1pm, with tickets priced at €15.

Set on a sleepy Saturday morning in Cork city, The Cure introduces us to a man standing on Half Moon Street, nursing the uneasy fear of the morning after the night before. Waiting for a pub – any pub – to open so he can get “the cure,” his thoughts are soon interrupted by a figure from his past: Brother Keenan, the Christian Brother who loomed large in his childhood.

As the story unfolds, Creedon carries the audience back to a Cork alive with the sights and smells of its past – from slaughterhouses and sweet-makers to the hum of the city’s pubs. It’s a piece that is as much about memory and identity as it is about one man’s confrontation with the ghosts of yesterday.

The play stars Ciaran Bermingham (Sexy Laundry, Game of Thrones, The Young Offenders) and is directed by Al Dalton (At The Moment, Everything is Missing, Tall Tail).

Its inclusion in the festival highlights Dromineer Nenagh’s commitment to celebrating literature in all its forms – from page to stage – and to showcasing the best of Irish writing and performance.

With Creedon’s evocative storytelling, Bermingham’s powerful performance, and Dalton’s thoughtful direction, The Cure promises to be one of the standout events of this year’s programme.

Tickets are now on sale from the Nenagh Arts Centre box office. Early booking is recommended.
