A quiet understanding among women runners in training group in Tipperary

These women enjoy running with the J&N Training Group in Clonmel

The inception of the J&N Training Group in the summer of 2023 coincided perfectly with a global surge in the appetite for social running.

This coach-led, mixed gender training group in Clonmel has grown exponentially over the past few years, evolving into something far greater than miles logged on Strava.

This week, we celebrate the women of our group - the everyday women who balance full-time jobs, raise young children, manage households, and still carve out precious time for themselves a few evenings each week.

Anyone who understands that grind knows how difficult it can be to prioritise time for their own wellbeing. The to-do lists are long, the days are full, and yet somehow these women show up.

For those of us who have found a way to fit J&N sessions into our hectic schedules, the rewards have been tenfold.
It is no secret that running transforms lives. But there is something uniquely powerful about women running together. In the shared miles, there is a quiet understanding- an unspoken recognition of the common challenges carried into each session.

That solidarity builds strength, not only physically but mentally. The encouragement exchanged on tough reps, the laughter echoing around the track, the conversations unfolding on long runs (and at the coffee shop) afterwards all become part of the ritual.

The endorphin boost of exercise, paired with genuine social connection, becomes an anchor, grounding us for the week ahead.
Friendships flourish in the hard work, the shared goals, and the ever-buzzing WhatsApp groups. This sense of belonging is invaluable. It reminds us that while we may juggle many roles, we are not doing it alone.

And within our mixed group, we must also acknowledge the men who actively support and champion the women they train alongside. Their encouragement, respect and camaraderie strengthen the culture we are so proud of in the J&N group. There is truly a place, and a pace, for everyone. Every milestone is celebrated, every effort recognised.

Because at its heart, this is about more than running. It is about community, resilience, friendship and the powerful statement made each time a woman chooses to show up for herself.
