Councillor for the Cashel/Tipperary area, Liam Browne, has told people who are rude to service workers to "cop on" in a recent Facebook post.

Reacting to an article he read in The Irish Independent, in which Vicki O'Toole was responding to the question: "My customers are getting more rude and abusive – how can I help my staff to cope?"

Sharing his own response to Facebook, he said: "It is something that drives me nuts. If you are rude to someone working in a shop, office, reception desk or wherever...you need to cop on. Seriously.

"You're not in that much of a rush. You're not the only person in the world waiting. That staff member may be new, may be training, may be trying their best to learn how to help you better. So stop treating them badly.

"Just relax, smile and tell them, it's ok, take your time. And yeah, now and again, some serving staff may also be rude. That's wrong too. But don't let that change your wish to be a better, nicer customer. And oh... the customer is NOT.. always right. So that doesn't excuse you."

Many people have had mixed reactions in the comments, one user said: "It's nice to have manners no matter what side of the counter you are on."

Another user said: "The customer is not always right, but they are still the customer."
