Tipperary Rose and historian to lead 1848 commemoration walk to Slievenamon's summit

The annual 1848 Slievenamon Monster Meeting Commemoration walk to the summit of Tipperary's most famous mountain takes place this Sunday, July 21.
The event is being organised by the Lingaun Valley Tourism Group and Kilcash community.
Walkers will assemble in Kilcash from 11.30am on Sunday and depart on the climb to Slievenamon at 12noon.
The walk will be led by historian Dr Tom McGrath and Tipperary Rose Tara Brady.
Dr McGrath will address the walkers briefly at the summit and Slievenamon will be sung.
The group will then return to Kilcash for refreshments and entertainment.
The event commemorates the 1848 Monster Meeting was organised by the Young Ireland Movement as a protest over the continued export of food produce from Ireland at the height of the Great Famine.
