The Comeragh College Under 16 boys basketball team pictured after winning the Munster Cup
Comeragh College’s Under 16 boys basketball team were crowned Munster Cup champions at the Neptune Stadium in Cork last week while its Under 19 boys basketball team were narrowly beaten in their Munster final that followed in the same venue.
It was a proud day for the Carrick-on-Suir community school’s basketball squads.
The Under 16 boys team delivered an outstanding performance, coming out on top against a strong Cobh side to claim a well-deserved Munster Cup victory.

From the opening whistle, the team showed determination, discipline and belief.
Standout performances came from Pablo Guitart Quijano, Sergio Almadana Vazquez and team captain Cillian Hyland, who led by example throughout the game.
They were well supported by solid contributions from Robert Doyle and Eimhin Mullowney, as the team worked tirelessly for one another on both ends of the court. Their teamwork and clear game plan were evident throughout, and their composure under pressure ultimately saw them come out on top.
This is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to the strength of the school’s up-and-coming basketball teams.

The U-19 final that followed was a tightly contested and hard-fought encounter against Fermoy.
The boys showed great heart and resilience, battling right to the final buzzer.
Captain Jack Dowley led a committed team effort, with strong performances from Bartosz and Jack Kennedy under the boards.
Around the arc, Orestas Budginas, Jack Murray. and Jack Dowley made key contributions, keeping the pressure on throughout the game.
Off the bench, Zak Lyons made a valuable impact, contributing both offensively and defensively when called upon.
Despite a huge effort and a disciplined team performance, it just wasn’t their day, and they narrowly lost out on a win.
Having such strong support from the school community made the day even more special. The bus of supporters brought great energy to Neptune Stadium and backed both teams every step of the way.
The Under 16 victory marks a brilliant milestone, while the Under 19 performance showcased determination, teamwork and character that will stand to them going forward.
Comerage College Principal Kevin Langton congratulated both teams and their coaches on representing the school with such pride.
“I just want to say how proud as a school community we are of both teams. It reflects the talent these young players have and the commitment they have given under the leadership of Ms Jennifer Grant and Ms Keavy McCole. It’s another sporting success for the school in what has turned out to be a great year for us,” he added.
