Walkers at the start point of the Le Chéile walk at Ormond Castle
More than 60 people took part in the new Le Chéile Carrick-on-Suir community walking group’s first walk in the town on Sunday.
Three students at Comeragh College Community School set up the walking group and they were blessed with a rare day of splendid sunshine for their inaugural walking event.
The Le Chéile walk started from Ormond Castle and walkers travelled along the Quay, past Gaelscoil Charraig na Siúire, along Mill Street and onto the Town Park before finishing at Gigi’s Café opposite the park where they enjoyed sponsored refreshments.
Evan Boland, Keeley Nevin and Mia Lowe-Waters were the students who organised the walk and route for the Journey of an Idea Student Entrepreneurial Programme run by Explore Carrick-on-Suir tourism initiative.
Carrick-on-Suir & District Lions Club members were proud to support the event on the day.
Sarah Jane Cleary, Commercial & Tourism Manager for Carrick-on-Suir also joined the walking group.
The theme for the first Le Chéile walk was mental health and wellbeing. There was an open invitation to the public to come together and enjoy the fresh air, a chat and a relaxing walk in nature.
"A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported our walk, it really means so much,’ said the three students, who led the event.
"Big thanks as well to the amazing Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club members for all their help and support, and to Gigi’s Carrick-on-Suir for looking after us afterwards."
Further walks are planned for the weeks ahead and dates and meeting points will be advertised in advance.
