The school choir and Mamma Mia cast at Cashel Community School triumphed recently at the New Ross AIMS music festival.
They picked up not one but two prestigious awards; The Connie Tantrum Trophy in the Senior Chorus section and The Carol Walsh Trophy in the Cameo competition.
The students from Cashel triumphed over strong competition from schools in Thurles, Waterford, Kilkenny, Dublin, and Mayo.

The adjudicator for the Senior Chorus competition highly commended the choir for its “well balanced parts and enjoyable colour and dynamic contrast”.
He specifically highlighted the choir’s second piece, a “powerful anthem from the musical Dear Evan Hansen”.
He noted that while technical elements are important, it takes a “special group to convey the emotion of a piece,” adding that this performance was “sung from the heart and was fully communicated to the audience”.
“From the 1st note I knew I needed to write nothing down other than the word ‘wow!’”
The adjudicator also expressed admiration for the choir’s first piece; a performance of an unaccompanied Madrigal aptly titled Now Is The Month Of Maying.
Credit for these achievements goes to choir directors John Murray and Patrice Davern.
