A County Councillor in Cashel has spoken out after a horse was reportedly left deceased in a field beside a busy roadway for several days.

Independent councillor Liam Browne said he was alerted to the situation after being sent a photograph taken from the slip road onto the M8 motorway in the Dublin direction.

“I was sent this picture this afternoon. It was taken from the slip road onto the M8 motorway, on the Dublin direction,” he wrote in a Facebook post yesterday evening.

Cllr Browne stated that he has since been informed the animal had been lying in the field since at least Monday, when it was first spotted.

Describing the image as 'distressing', the councillor confirmed he would be contacting the local authority’s environmental section to request the immediate removal of the remains.

He also appealed to horse owners to ensure proper care for their animals, urging that horses be given “to someone who will look after them, rather than leave them dying in fields or on the roads.”
