Permission was sought for a retirement village in Clonmel
Plans for a retirement village in a Tipperary town have been turned down on appeal by An Bord Pleanála.
A planning application for the construction of a retirement village with 50 apartments in Glenconnor, Clonmel had been refused by Tipperary County Council last July, but had been appealed to An Bord Pleanála by the applicant.
The retirement village would have consisted of 28 two-bed units, and 22 one-bed units, which were all to be single storey.

A facilities building was also proposed, with vehicular and pedestrian access to the proposed retirement village through the existing Glenview Close, planning documents show.
In their refusal, Tipperary County Council said that the proposed development “lacks clarity, is piecemeal, uncoordinated and premature”, as an overall masterplan for the site is required.

An Bord Pleanála upheld Tipperary County Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the development, stating that the proposed development would be contrary to the Clonmel and Environs Local Area Plan, and that the development would “constitute an insufficient and unacceptable level of density at this location”.
