€700,000 in funding for climate action announced for community groups in Tipperary

A Tipperary TD has welcomed the allocation of €700,000 for Tipperary under the Community Climate Action Programme.

“This is fantastic news for Tipperary,” said Fianna Fáil TD Ryan O'Meara. “Everyone wants to do their part for the climate and it’s vital that our communities have the support they need to make a real difference.

“I strongly encourage community groups across Tipperary to apply for this funding. It offers enormous potential to support local climate action and I want to see it put to the best possible use for the benefit of our communities.”

Funding applications are now open to Tidy Towns groups, residents’ associations, voluntary and not-for-profit organisations, sports clubs and community centres that are not owned by the local authority. A total of €700,000 has been allocated to Tipperary County Council under the €27 million Climate Action Programme.

Speaking on the announcement by Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien, Deputy Ryan O'Meara said: “I want to commend Minister O’Brien for introducing this important initiative, which will empower local communities to take real, practical steps towards reducing emissions and building a more sustainable future. This funding will make a genuine difference on the ground.”

The funding will be administered by Community Climate Action Officers (CCAO) in local authorities, who will provide guidance and support to help organisations and community groups transition to lower-carbon, more sustainable communities.
Eligible projects can receive funding for initiatives across five key areas: community energy, sustainable travel, food and waste management, shopping and recycling and local climate and environmental action.
