Subsidence of a special cobblestone effect road marking identifying where part of Fethard’s old town wall once stood on a street in the town is posing a hazard to traffic, a councillor highlighted at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s monthly meeting.

Fine Gael Cllr Mark Fitzgerald highlighted at the meeting in Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall the danger to traffic posed by the subsidence of the road markings on Barrack Street near Dalton’s Pharmacy.

He feared a motorist will ‘blow a tyre’ going over where the road marking has subsided if the problem isn’t rectified.

District Engineer Michael Scully assured Cllr Fitzgerald the repair of the town wall markings on Barrack Street was on the Council’s “radar” but unfortunately there was no quick fix to the subsidence problem.

The road markings would have to be taken out and reinstated.
