'It’s the TÚS guys that add the extra touch' - Cahir thankful for help with new tree planting

TÚS Programme participants help was invaluable to Cahir Tidy Towns projects during 2022. The tree planting project was fully completed with help from TÚS participants on Christmas week.

Cahir Councillor Andy Moloney said last week that the Cahir Tidy Towns group wished to acknowledge the help and support it has received for a tree planting project from South Tipperary Development CLG (STDC) and the participants on the TÚS Programme, a programme that STDC operates on behalf of the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP).

Cllr Moloney is part of the Cahir Tidy Towns group and says that the TÚS scheme has played a huge part in the development of Cahir Town and it’s progression over the recent years. He said that ”while volunteers can only do so much, it’s the TÚS guys that add the extra touch to jobs that would normally get done. We are delighted that TÚS came on board with this Tree planting project on the Clogheen road and the provision of native Irish Rowan will add to the colour with their green foliage and red berries in the years ahead.

This planting scheme further adds to semi mature trees that were planted at the Viaduct and in the Car Park with An Coill Beag in the past few weeks. The Group are about to plant trees in designated areas in the Inch Field in conjunction with an educational programme through the Coláiste TY students. This will be rolled out over the next three months.

Last year the Group planted trees under the Orchards of Ireland initiative as well as the fruit trees along the Swiss Walk and more with Tipperary County Council National Tree week and with the help of ABP we will continue this great tree planting scheme around the town of Cahir that will be of benefit for the generations to come and also add to the sustainability and biodiversity of the area”.

The Cahir Councillor also points out that the Christmas Tree recycling facility is available again this year at the Council Yard in the Tipperary Road Business Park in Cahir and people can drop off their Christmas Trees from now on and the mulch generated from the trees will be used for future projects around the town.
