'Honesty, care and integrity,' Matron Ann Fitzpatrick on her time at St St Theresa’s Thurles

Outgoing Matron Ann Fitzpatrick with new owner Sandra Farrell

St Theresa’s was opened by my mother and father 43 years ago.

On the day Archbishop Dr Morris celebrated Mass here, and I remember the sense of occasion and as he blessed this home, the feeling that St Theresa’s was being sent on its journey safely.

Through the years, so many people have shared in that journey, and the trust that the residents, their families and staff placed in our family was a privilege and always taken very seriously. One of the many things my parents passed onto me was to never take that trust lightly and to work with honesty, care and integrity.

Covid has been an enormous challenge, as we and everyone in the world were quite literally at war with an invisible force that threatened our lives and the lives of our loved ones.

I will never forget the overwhelming concern for residents, staff and their families. The constant prayer was for the residents, the staff, and their families to remain safe.

Last week the residents and the staff arranged a beautiful Mass by His Grace Archbishop O’Reilly, and in essence it was to celebrate the journey of care at St Theresa’s over the 43 years. It was the most meaningful gift to share with everyone on the day.

For those who say I have done an excellent job I remain adamant in saying I haven’t. It is the exceptional staff I know and work with who are deserved of that ,and to the residents and their families who gave their unfailing support and trust.

To be part of the community of St Theresa’s has been a privilege and as his Grace blessed this home last week, I have every trust everyone at St Theresa’s are being sent on the rest of the journey safely in the new hands of Sandra Farrell and her husband Sean.

The residents and staff gave them a heartfelt welcome, and I have no doubt everyone remains in safe hands with each other.
