Electric vehicles are one of the fastest growing modes of transport worldwide and yet there is no charging point in one of the most prominent tourist towns in Tipperary.
With the premium tourist season fast approaching the number of visitors driving EVs will increase substantially in the county but the facilities need updating.
That is according to Councillor Andy Moloney who raised the issue at the February meeting of the Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District.
The south Tipperary town boasts the magnificent 13th century Cahir Castle as well as many modern amenities however EV facilities are lacking in the town.
He pointed out that the lack of electric vehicle charging points across Tipperary needs addressing and as national and international visitors flock to Cahir, something must be done.
“We’ve looked at it more times,” Councillor Moloney said pointing out that progress hasn’t been made. Referring to the chargers he said: “They are badly needed now because there is none at all in the town.”
The council representative Anthony Coleman responded by saying the council would follow up on the matter with Easy Go, the company entrusted with putting in the charging points in the town.
“We certainly would be encouraging them to get chargers in before the main tourist season starts,” he said.
