Tom Maher presenting the cup to the Cashel CS joint captains
Cashel community school claimed another title this week, this time in football, to be crowned 1-12 to 0-11 winners in the Tipperary Under 19 A football championship final against old west Tipp rivals Abbey CBS to win the Corn Mhic Gabhan.
It has been a remarkable run of form for the Cashel school, following on from their recent Munster schools hurling success where they won the Harty cup Munster schools hurling competition and also the senior camogie team in the school was to the fore in recent times.
This time the Cashel footballers got the all important goal to much delight, as they defeated Abbey CBS at the 4G pitch in Fethard town park. A number of the Harty cup winners were part of the football side that claimed the honours on Monday afternoon.
For Abbey CBS the defeat in the county post primary schools Under 19 A football final will hit hard after they recently lost the All-Ireland B schools football final at Bekan in Mayo where a late flurry from St Joseph's of Tyrone was enough to wrestle the title away. Abbey, after winning the Munster final before that, will play A level football in the province next year and are sure to learn from recent experiences and come back stronger.
