Transport Infrastructure Ireland has approved funding of €30,000 to resurface the O’Donovan Rossa/Cuchulainn Rd junction in Thurles.

Thurles Municipal District made the application under the TII’s Geo App funding stream. The grant is for works on national routes under €50,000, which are usually the responsibility of TII.

Works under the funding stream are carried out by local authorities.

The approval of funding was made before last week’s sitting of the Thurles-Templemore Municipal District Council.

Councillor Seamus Hanafin welcomed the announcement at the meeting. However, he queried with the District Engineer Thomas Duffy if works could be carried out further up Cuchulainn Road toward Parnell Street.

He said the road there was a in “poor condition”.

Mr Duffy said they would look at localised work, but the road would have to be closed.

Cllr Hanafin asked that any works be carried out at quiet times as the road is an arterial road into the town.
