Plan to combat dumping and burning of waste in residential area of Clonmel

The dumping and burning of waste is affecting The Wilderness, Oakland Drive and Carrigeen area of Clonmel

Clonmel Borough District is to liaise with the environment section of Tipperary County Council and local residents in relation to a plan for a residential area of the town where there has been an increase in the number of dumping and burning of waste incidents.

Cllr Siobhán Ambrose told a meeting of the Borough District that rubbish had been dumped and burned in the vicinity of the tennis courts and the pitch at the Wilderness, Carrigeen and Oakland Drive estates, on the northern side of the town.

She said that the council should consult with the residents and other organisations that worked in this area to draw up an overall plan for this large urban area.

Cllr Ambrose said that this was an area with great potential and an overall plan could be very effective.

District Mayor Pat English said that action should be taken and there should be cooperation between the Borough District, the residents and the county council’s environment section.

In his report to the meeting, District Engineer Roger Noonan also stated that the environment section had submitted an application under the anti-dumping initiative for this area, and was awaiting a response in relation to funding.

If funding became available, the Borough District would work in collaboration with the environment section and the residents to get the project completed.
