A greenfield site in Rathcabbin were hundreds of tonnes of organic waste had been deposited, causing a stench and an environmental hazard, has been transformed due to a clean-up project taken on by Tipperary County Council, Cllr
Michael O’ Meara stated at the April meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District authority.
He said the work carried out by the local authority to clear the area of the polluting matter left by former occupiers, Shannon Vermicomposting, had transformed the site into an area as level as a billiard table.
“An excellent job has been down there,” said Cllr O’ Meara, referring to the decision of the council to move all the organic waste from the site and deposit it at the local authority’s old landfill site at Ballyveny, near Toomevara.
However, he said the road linking the site with Rathcabbin was now in need of immediate attention. The route was in deplorable condition.
Councillors were informed that works on restoring the site would continue to the end of the year, and possible extend into 2024.
