Thurles municipal district will have €11.4m to spend on roads and housing projects

Thurles Municipal District Council will have just over €11.4m to spend on roads and housing projects for 2023.

The funding was released by the district council following a meeting with councillors in March.

Not surprisingly, roads tops the funding list, with just under €9m to be spread throughout the district.

This will include maintenance, tertiary roads, low cost and community schemes, as well as bridge rehabilitation and climate adaptation.

Public lighting throughout the district will et €15,000; IPB insurance for Thurles footpaths has been assigned €208,025 with €58,311 being spent on public car parks.

Under Active Travel, the River Suir and cycle paths in Thurles will receive €48,000, and improvement works at Bowes Corner junction have been allocated €150,000.

Street cleaning in the district has received €386,889, with €19,915 going on tackling illegal dumping and litter in Thurles.

The district’s public toilets will get €49,287 and amenities areas will get €657,210.

The council will spend €38,500 on promoting the district, with a further €10,000 going to Templemore’s twinning committee, and €80,000 being spent on Christmas lights in the district.

The General Municipal District Allocation is €215,036, with a further €52,512 being set aside for drainage, and burial grounds getting €248,943.

Housing and halting sites will see a €757,018 spend.

The total set aside for the district under all headings comes to €11,412,307.
