The Head of Finance and Information Technology at Tipperary County Council, Liam McCarthy, is retiring.
This month’s sitting of Tipperary County Council was his last. At the meeting, both the elected members and his colleagues in the council expressed a huge amount of respect and regard for the director.
Chief Executive Joe MacGrath called Mr McCarthy an ‘exemplary public servant’ and complimented him on his 21-year career with the council. Mr MacGrath acknowledged, in particular, the work Mr McCarthy had done at the national level to secure Tipperary
County Council’s position.
“He did that with excellence and professionalism,” said Mr MacGrath. Cllr Michael Smith called him a “gentleman.” Cllr John Carroll said Mr McCarthy is ‘hugely respected’ across the chamber and Cllr Michéal Lowry said Mr McCarthy had an open-door policy for councillors and a special way of working with people.
Mr McCarthy thanked those who spoke for their well wishes and said he was “at a loss for words.” He complimented his team and the support of the councillors and wished the council well in their future projects.
