Several hundred people turned out in the lakeside village of Dromineer on Lough Derg in glorious sunshine last Sunday for a 5km walk in memory of Nenagh woman Deirdre Ryan, who passed away suddenly earlier this year.

The fundraising walk raised over €11,000 for the local Suaimhneas cancer support services.

It was organised by Deirdre's friend Louise Morgan Walsh, who said the turnout was a testimony to the great community person that Deirdre was, a woman who helped so may people in her own quiet way.

The walk was led off by Deirdre's brothers, Dinny, Joe, Dermot, Damian and Liam.

Dermot described the event as “incredible”.

“Deirdre was an incredible community person and it was such an honour to see the community come out in support. Thanks again to Louise Morgan Walsh for organising it and all who helped and donated,” he said.
