Intermediate Hurling Championship Quarter-Finals
Cappawhite vs Kilsheelan Kilcash
Cappawhite are in very fine fettle indeed ahead of this clash with a Kilsheelan Kilcash team which is in the midst of a heavy schedule of matches indeed, between both codes.
The south outfit will have been annoyed to lose to Moneygall late on in their delayed round 3 group clash last week after putting themselves in a winning position, which meant they had to go to the well in a preliminary quarter-final against Skeheenarinky which will sap them of some mental and physical energy.
However, they do still have a formidable forward unit in Mark and Barry Kehoe, while Senan Butler and Martin Gibbs have been excellent to date, so Cappawhite will have it all to do.
The toil and exertions may yet catch up with Kilsheelan down the track but they might just have enough in the tank to get a narrow win here.
Verdict: Kilsheelan Kilcash
Drom & Inch vs Golden Kilfeacle
Drom & Inch look very comfortable at this level and have taken some big scalps to date and have a very experienced team all over the pitch.
They have a very solid defensive unit with Mikey Connors and David Butler their main score getters in the group and they will be confident going into this game.
Golden were surprise qualifiers for this stage with a last gasp goal in their final group game seeing them slip into second place, and they will know that they will need to be at their best to get a result here.
Their lack of scoring punch may be what proves their undoing here, but if they get the best out of Jack Leamy, Ben Currivan, and Jack Bergin they might make it interesting.
Verdict: Drom & Inch
Moneygall vs Borrisokane
Borrisokane will come into this game with a point to prove as they look to banish the ghost of their north championship hammering back in July at the hands of Moneygall in the summer.
They have been extremely prolific in their county campaign to date and have the second most scored in the championship - after Kilsheelan who have an extra game played - so they will feel they are in a position to cause an upset here.
Moneygall still look good despite needing a late flurry of scores to edge past Kilsheelan last week, as they did so without Ciaran Quinlan, Cathal Hogan, and Brendan Toohey, all of which are expected to be available for this game.
The north clash some months ago probably wasn’t a fair reflection of where the team are at in relation to one another, but even with that said, Moneygall have the firepower in Joe Fogarty, Paddy Fogarty, and Sean Kenneally to do the necessary damage.
Verdict: Moneygall
Boherlahan Dualla vs Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams
Boherlahan Dualla are coming into this game in buoyant mood having topped the intermediate version of the group of death.
The injection of youth from the O’Dwyer’s and Dylan Fogarty has been massive for them this year, while elder statesmen in the form of Tossy Ryan and Darragh Hickey, as well as the shooting or Mark Downey has them in a good spot.
Kickhams were impressive in their demolition of Carrick Davins in their final group game, but they have mixed the good with the bad and will be desperate to find consistency.
All that said, Boherlahan look like the better oiled machine and should squeak through here.
Verdict: Boherlahan Dualla
