BREAKING: Teenager charged over Tipperary burglaries as gardaí issue update

In response to the second burglary, gardaí intercepted a car in the Roscrea area following a lengthy managed containment operation.

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with recent incidents of burglary and the unauthorised taking of a vehicle in county Tipperary and county Laois.

On January 17, 2026, gardaí commenced an investigtion following a burglary and the unauthorised taking of a car from a residential property in Ballina, county Tipperary.

In the early hours of January 18, gardaí responded to reports of a second burglary at a residence in Rathdowney.

In response to the second burglary, gardaí intercepted a car in the Roscrea area following a lengthy managed containment operation.

An adult male in his late teens was arrested and the vehicle stolen during the Ballina burglary was recovered. He was subsequently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in county Tipperary.

The individual has since been charged in connection with these investigations and related matters and is expected to appear before a sitting of Limerick District Court on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 10:30am.

Investigations are ongoing.
