Many in Killenaule and Tipperary at a huge loss for the passing of Mossy Mullins

Many in Killenaule and Tipperary at a huge loss for the passing of Mossy Mullins

The late Mossy Mullins, Killenaule

The parish of Killenaule is certainly a lesser place following the passing of one of the most popular people in Killenaule, Mossy Mullins.

Mossy’s impact and contribution to our club (and the community) across many many years has been remarkable.
Mossy hurled for Killenaule at underage and adult level, usually in goal or the full back line. He holds South medals at u21, intermediate and senior level. Of note also is that Mossy was captain for Killenaule’s first year back playing senior hurling in 1987. After his playing career, Mossy played roles in the last 20 years as committee member, selector, manager, and always as an unwavering Killenaule supporter.

Mossy of course was also a successful business man, and this probably had an influence in his dealings with people. He was always looking for the solution not the problem, and in speaking of him since he passed, people have remarked that ‘you could go to Mossy with anything, he’d do anything for you’.

Mossy had a love of soccer also, or more to the point a love of Glasgow Celtic FC. Mossy was a season ticket holder, attending a huge amount of games down the years. Dozens of people from in and around Killenaule have headed to Parkhead either with or thanks to Mossy. Most usually were amazed that half of Glasgow seemed to know Mossy. And of course not many of us can say a European Cup winning captain has stayed in our house, but Billy McNeill of the all-conquering 1967 Lisbon Lions was indeed in the Mullins household. Mossy’s involvement with Killenaule Rovers for many years is the reason why Rovers have traditionally worn the Green hoops of Celtic.

Mossy’s legacy in the sports business world is significant and ongoing. The introduction of standardised yellow sliotars is through Mossy's company Greenfields Technology, and that legacy has a journey still to go, with the likely introduction of ‘data’ from sliotars in the years ahead. Mossys generosity through Greenfields Technology to Killenaule GAA was above and beyond generous. Sliotars by the dozen and sponsorship and support were always willingly offered by Mossy, never looking for any thanks or credit.

Beyond sport and business, Mossy was just a lovely, warm, sociable person. You would have to go far to find sounder than Mossy, but at the same time not far at all. Mossy’s lovely wife and daughter, Brid and Mairin, complete the immediate family, as nice a family as you will find.

Our deepest sympathies to Brid and Mairin, brothers Canon Tadhg and Padraig, the wider family, neighbours and the many many friends of Tomás ‘Mossy’ Mullins. May Mossy rest in peace.
