St Oliver Plunkett’s National School, Clonmel recently celebrated its annual Attendance Awards.
The school has been celebrating such an event for the past number of years.
The awards ceremony is always a highly anticipated event in the school calendar. Teachers and pupils alike eagerly await the list of award winners and the presentation of medals and trophies. Pupils who have achieved outstanding attendance in the previous school year are honoured.
Over the last school year, an amazing 15 pupils managed to achieve full attendance. Also, a number of students were presented with medals for only missing up to three days in a full school year. Well done everyone!
Valerie Slattery, Principal of St Oliver’s, spoke to the whole school assembly, outlining the importance of good attendance and acknowledging effort and improvement across the school.

Special guest Ita Teehan, the school’s Education and Welfare Officer, was welcomed to officiate at the awards ceremony.
The role of the Education Welfare Officer is to liaise with schools and parents and to support attendance at school.
She highlighted to children the importance of excellent attendance and was very impressed with the school’s Attendance Drive.
The Attendance Drive, run by the Home School Liaison teacher, Ms Donoghue, is always a favourite for pupils and the element of competition between classes adds further fun and commitment.
Attendance levels at St Oliver’s are excellent-well done to all the wonderful students.
