Tipperary County Council
A minute of silence as a mark of respect to all the innocent people who have died in the Israeli-Hamas conflict in the Middle East was observed by councillors at the start of Tipperary County Council’s monthly meeting last Friday.
A resolution was also passed at the council meeting in Clonmel calling for an immediate ceasefire by all sides in the conflict and that humanitarian aid be allowed into the Gaza Strip as a matter of urgency.
The resolution was proposed at the end of the meeting by Fine Gael Cllr Marie Murphy and was seconded.
It was proposed as an alternative to a resolution Independent Thurles councillor Jim Ryan tabled at the conclusion of the minute of silence.
He had called on the council to write to the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland seeking a ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
His proposal wasn’t seconded and Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Jim Darcy, at that stage in the meeting, advised the council should just stick to the observation of the minute of silence.
