Octane Racing, a team of five Fifth Year students from Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn Clonmel, are one of only three teams to qualify for the Formula One (F1) in Schools World Finals in 2024.

F1 in schools is an international STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) competition where you design, manufacture, and race, a miniature F1 car against teams from all around the globe. Along with this, teams are judged on a 10-minute verbal presentation and two written portfolios, one for enterprise and the other for engineering. Teams also must raise the funds to buy uniforms, buy merchandise, and build a pit display.

Octane Racing, in partnership with Boston Scientific, managed to place third nationally and have qualified to represent Ireland internationally in the new year.

Of course, in order to progress to the World Finals and do well, Octane are in great need of support and sponsorship from the local community. They have budgeted that they will need up to €20,000 to manage their project, and they need the community’s help to raise these funds.

If you wish to help fund these young students in their endeavours to compete in this prestigious STEM competition, Octane Racing can be found on GoFundMe under Octane Racing, and if you are a local business interested in assisting with sponsoring this team, their email address is info@octaneracing.org.

Good luck Octane Racing!
