A hiker who got lost while walking on Slievenamon last Saturday afternoon, was rescued from the mountainside by the South Eastern Mountain Rescue team.
The 70-year-old woman, who is an experienced hiker on Slievenamon and member of a walking group, became disorientated due to dense fog. SEMRA received the call out to search for her at 4.37pm on November 11.
She was found by a SEMRA volunteer and search dog Kody and was escorted down off the mountain as darkness fell.
SEMRA reported that all its volunteers were safely off the mountain by 7.43pm.
Due to earlier nightfall at this time of year, SEMRA has advised walkers to bring a torch if hiking in the hills.
“With the change in the hour for daylight saving, it is easier to get caught out by darkness or poor visibility on the hills. It is always a good idea to bring a torch/head torch to help light the way,” said a SEMRA spokesperson.
