Aiséirí issues appeal to Tipperary families for Christmas

 Aiséirí Addiction Treatment Centres are calling on the public to invest in people this year and give the gift of hope to those struggling with addiction and their families.

Speaking of the upcoming festive period, Sara Cassidy, Head of Clinical Services, Aiséirí said “Christmas can be a wonderful time of year but it can also pose huge emotional stress for people struggling with addiction or in early recovery. The traditional family picture at Christmas for many isn’t a reality as addiction may have strained relationships and caused loss. There can be such nostalgia, loss and regret and these emotions cause pain which invariably can be a relapse trigger. Those suffering from addiction share a common difficulty of managing emotions appropriately. Therefore, as we lead up to Christmas we must all double up our supports, fellowship, 12 step meetings and reaching out to friends and family. It’s very important to be mindful of people, places and things and prepare for occasions by putting in place the appropriate supports and I cannot stress enough how vital it is to talk about your feelings, as it is often only then that you will realise you are not alone.”
