The condition of a road in one of Tipperary's tourism areas is being monitored daily

The Director of Services for Roads Marcus O'Connor has said the R496 Ballina is being monitored daily.

He said he is conscious of the fact that traffic from the R494 has been diverted to the R496 to accommodate works.

He said they have, and will continue to “make interventions” where needed.

Mr O’Connor was responding to Cllr Phyll Bulger, who asked if money had been allocated to the R496.

She also raised concerns about flooding in the area, which she said needed to be addressed as a “matter of urgency.”

Mr O'Connor said much work has been done to alleviate the flooding in the area. But, he said a bigger scheme is needed.

“We have spent and continue to spend to support the area. We know it is one our most important tourism areas,” said Mr O’Connor.
