The late Denis Taylor
Mayor of Clonmel Cllr Richie Molloy has paid tribute to the late Denis Taylor.
“It is with deep regret and a real sense of sadness that we record the death of Denis Taylor, which took place on November 17, 2023,” said Cllr Molloy.
Denis Taylor was a native of Templemore in county Tipperary.
Having trained as a psychiatric nurse, he settled in Clonmel where he was employed at St Luke’s Hospital for many years until his retirement some years ago. “An active member of St Mary’s Parish in that town, he was a loyal and committed member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart,” said Clonmel’s first citizen.
The involvement of Denis Taylor at the level of St Mary’s Parish Centre led to his membership of the South Tipperary Regional Council and, from there, to the Waterford and Lismore Diocesan Council.
“His secretarial skills were matched by his interest in, and concern for, the welfare of the Association and he attended many events at national level in recent decades,” said Cllr Molloy.
“Of particular interest to Denis was the enrolment of Confirmation candidates in the Pioneer Association and he delighted in his annual visits to the primary schools in the parish. Denis will be remembered for his courtesy, good humour and joie de vivre,” added Cllr Molloy.
His funeral took place at St Mary’s Church, Irishtown, Clonmel, his parish church, and was followed by interment at St Patrick’s Cemetery, Clonmel.
“We express our sympathy to his wife, Christina, his sons, Gerard, Seán, Mark and Cathal, his daughters, Marie and Catherine, his fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, his sister, Mary Reynolds, in-laws and other relatives.”
His death took place shortly after that of his daughter, Denise Ryan, who passed away on October 27, 2023.
