Tipperary TD welcomes €183,400 in extra funding for third level college's sports campus
Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill has welcomed top-up funding worth €183,415 for the Regional Sports Campus in Thurles, bringing the total allocation to €745,969.
Deputy Cahill's party colleague Minister of State for Sport and Physical Education, Thomas Byrne, along with Minister for Sport Catherine Martin, announced top-up grant allocations to existing projects under the Large-Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF).
A total of €37.6 million has been allocated to projects across the country in the latest round of funding, bringing the total awarded under the LSSIF to €124 million to date.
The additional funding for projects is being provided in response to delays experienced by grantees arising from the pandemic and construction inflation and following engagement with the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform.
The Ministers also confirmed that a new round of the LSSIF will open for applications in the first half of 2024.
“I’m delighted that top-up funding of over €183,000 has been awarded for the design of Regional Sports Campus in Thurles.
“This is hugely important funding as it will benefit people of all ages and abilities. Investing in our sports infrastructure is a no-brainer - it not only helps keep people physically fit but it is also vital for nurturing good mental health."
