Over 2,300 passengers have used the new Clonmel Town Bus Service since its launch last week.
Cllr Siobhán Ambrose, who is a member of the Tipperary Transport Committee, said it is great to see that so many people have used the bus in its first week.
“These numbers will only grow as people get used to the location of the bus stops and the bus timetable,” she stated.
“This new town service will particularly benefit the elderly and those who do not drive. It will also allow people the option of leaving their car at home and travelling into town to shop, socialise or to see family and friends.
“Other people will now also have the opportunity of using it to go to work, as it also covers some of the large companies around Clonmel in addition to a stop on the Western Road near the hospital”.
Anyone with a travel pass can travel for free on the town bus and people can purchase a leap card in any post office, which will reduce the cost of fares.
Cllr Ambrose said that now that the bus is up and running, she will be looking for other routes around the town to be added to this service, in addition to future routes for the villages around Clonmel.
