Tipperary photographer Pádraig's generosity raises €10,000 for Red Cross from sale of book

Renowned Nenagh portrait and PPAI press photographer Pádraig Ó Flannabhra, known for his exceptional contributions to Association and Press Photography in Ireland over three decades, presented a generous donation of €10,000 today to the Irish Red Cross from the proceeds of his latest published masterpiece, Ireland Dubh & Bán / Black & White.

This remarkable gesture showcases Pádraig's commitment to combining art with philanthropy in a book of images from significant Irish historical cultural events over the last 27 years.

His latest collection, Ireland Dubh & Bán / Black & White" marks his ninth published work and is published by Cló Choll Chnó in 2023.

The book is a visually stunning photo-book featuring over 140 pages of black and white imagery capturing the essence of people, places, and events in Ireland from 1996 to 2023.

The collection includes striking images from significant events such as the Béal na mBláth centenary 2022, the papal visit 2018, the RDS Horse Show, Oileán Mhic Dara, Conamara, Bloomsday, Dublin, and Listowel Writers’ Week.

Pádraig said: “I am delighted to make this collection of pictures available for a charity whose workers and volunteers very often find themselves at the very frontline of a global human network, helping those facing conflict and disaster; an opportunity where art meets charity.”

Pádraig is a multiple award-winning portrait and press photographer with a career spanning over three decades.

His work has been recognised for its exceptional quality and contribution to the field of photography.

Pádraig’s illustrious career in photography began with his first published work, Ireland Beyond the Pale, by Dolmen Press in 1986.

Based at his Photoart Studio in Pocán, Nenagh, Pádraig brings a unique perspective to his work, drawing on his background as a former textile designer with Nenagh Textile Mills and Youghal Carpets Design Studio.
