Cllr Pat English says the speed limit on the road should be revised in the interest of public safety
Renewed calls have been made for the speed limit at the Redmondstown junction, on the Clonmel to Waterford road, to be revised to 60 kilometres per hour from the current 100 kilometres per hour.
The latest call was made by Cllr Pat English at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.
He said that this was a very dangerous junction, and the speed limit on this section of the N24 should be revised in the interest of public safety.
Cllr Siobhán Ambrose said that all councillors would agree with this request, but it had been refused when it was reviewed by the Department of Transport.
District Mayor Richie Molloy said that this had been going on for a very long time and it seemed ludicrous that the speed limit signs had been moved.
They had been promised that traffic calming measures would also be introduced but this hadn’t happened.
Cllr Pat English said that moving the signs was the easiest option.
In a written reply, District Administrator Carol Creighton said that this location had been forwarded to the roads department of Tipperary County Council for consideration in the next speed limit review.
She said that this would commence following the issuing of new guidance from the Department of Transport, which is expected early in the New Year.
