Amazing Tipperary competitors among nominees for Outsider People of the Year

Ellie Berry from Cahir (29) wowed the outdoors community this year when she set a new speed record for climbing every mountain in Ireland.

Outsider.ie announces a list of more then 50 nominees for its annual People of the Year Awards. These awards celebrate ordinary, yet extraordinary, people that have achieved amazing feats on the Irish outdoor and adventure scene in 2023. The awards are supported by title sponsor Sport Ireland.
Some of the amazing nominees include some from county Tipperary including:

Ellie Berry
Ellie Berry from Cahir (29) wowed the outdoors community this year when she set a new speed record for climbing every mountain in Ireland.
Ellie, who is from Tipperary, spent her summer solo-climbing all 275 mountains on the Vandeleur-Lynams list. That is mountains measuring 600m+, with a prominence of 15m. She chronicled her amazing adventures on Tough Soles, a YouTube channel and blog she runs with her partner Carl Lange.

Paul Tierney
Paul Tierney, a 44-year-old endurance athlete and father from Ballina, undertook an extraordinary summer challenge.
Paul cycled between and climbed the 23 highest peaks in Ireland, and he accomplished this feat entirely self-supported. Without the aid of a support vehicle, he carried all the necessary supplies on his bike, including a tent, all his clothes and his food. He covered an astonishing 1,200km on his bike and 180km of running on the tallest peaks in Ireland.

Ballina's Paul Tierney, a 44-year-old endurance athlete and father from Ballina, undertook an extraordinary summer challenge.

Jessika Robson (17) who became the youngest person to swim the North Channel, setting a new World Record.
The Northern Irish teen, braved repeated jellyfish stings and choppy tides to complete the 41km crossing from Donaghadee County Down to Portpatrick in Scotland, swimming for a total of 11 hours and 46 minutes without stopping.

Brianna Jackson (39), took up sea swimming during the pandemic as a form of release from the stress of raising 3-month old twins and a two year old. Only able to doggy paddle, she decided to teach herself how to swim properly. Two years later, Brianna Jackson has represented Ireland in the World Ice Swimming Championships, and has become one of Ireland’s most accomplished marathon swimmers.

In 2023, Jackson knocked out an impressive eight marathon swims. She was the first woman to conquer swims from Howth to Bray, Kish to Lambay Island, and Lambay Island to Rockabill Lighthouse. She has also completed Fastnet Lighthouse to Baltimore and Galway Bay Blackrock Tower to Aughinish, achieving two-thirds of the Irish Triple Crown.

Eamonn Keaveney (31) rode the length of Ireland on a unicycle in just six days.Eamonn – who hails from Claremorris in County Mayo – has been raising money for suicide prevention charities since 2016, when he walked around Ireland barefoot and earnt a World Record in the process. He followed that up in 2018 by climbing 10 Irish mountains, also barefoot.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of achievements.
