Tipperary Primary School's Tractor Run 2024 - Fundraiser created one mighty day!

At the commencement of this school year the Parents’ Association in Killurney National School decided to plan a tractor run as a fundraiser for the school.

You can well imagine, a lot of work went into the planning and preparation for the day. Signs were made and put up to show the direction and route the tractors would take. Treats and snacks were kindly donated by parents and local people for everyone to enjoy in Cloneen Hall after the tractor run. Everyone was so generous with their donations to our school and the day was a great success.

Let us tell you about what we got up to…

That morning, we washed our tractors at home and then we motored up to the school. The roads were very icy, especially on the hill and it was foggy too. From the top of the hill, it was difficult to see the road because of the low lying fog.

Shortly after, we arrived at the school. We were surprised to see so many vehicles parked up. There were 30 tractors and three vintage cars at the event. When we got inside the school, we registered our tractors. A €20 entry fee was charged for each tractor taking part. We then got a sticker for our tractor that said “Killurney Tractor Run 2024”.

Everyone was in great spirits and chatting away before we set off.

While waiting to leave, we saw some incredible tractors, including a Ford 7610, a Massey 7s 180, a Ford 6600, a Massey 7715 and a John Deere 6145R. It was very exciting driving along the route, people were waving at us and blowing their car horns. The atmosphere was mighty.

The 10 marshals allowed the slower tractors to leave first to keep everyone together during the run. We left the school and headed towards Fethard. H.R photography was filming us at various points of the route. In fact, the cameraman Harry Ryan is only 13 years old, would you believe! Anna-May Morrissey was the only female driver on the run. She is only 17 years old and was driving a green John Deere.

After we arrived in Fethard, we took the “bad road” heading towards Cloneen. We arrived in Cloneen to cheers and applause. We parked up and entered the community hall. There was table after table of food for everyone. We had great craic but then it was time to go home. Our tractor run was a great success. On the day of the tractor run it was very foggy. We washed the tractor early that morning and then went over to the school to begin the tractor run. There were loads of tractors there and I saw lots of my friends. We set off on the roads around Slievenamon and stopped in Cloneen for tea, buns and biscuits. I got to talk to all of my friends. We continued on back home and overall; it was a great day. I saw loads of different tractors and some were very old. The tractor we were driving was a John Deere, they’re the best.
