Tipperary gardaí made almost 2,000 referrals to Tusla last year

Tipperary gardaí made 1,738 referrals to Tusla in 2023.

That is according to the Chief Superintendent’s report at a recent sitting of the Tipperary Joint Policing Committee.

Garda Chief Superintendent Aileen Magner said these referrals referred to children the gardaí had concerns about. She said it is part of the work of garda members that largely goes unrecognised.

“That is almost 2,000 incidents that won’t appear in media reports or on social media but it does equate to hours and hours of work by gardaí in households up and down the breadth of the division.

“In respect of these incidents, it is again, just the tip of the iceberg,” said Chief Supt Magner.

The Tipperary garda chief asked members to raise with them, any concerns about families in their communities.

She said some just need support or signposting to services.

“We will support them, where we can,” said Chief Supt Magner.
