Young Tipperary woman among TG4 group that addressed Dáil committee on Irish language

Chloe Ní Ghríofa from Cloneen was a member of the TG4 interns group that addressed the Dáil Committee on the Irish Language

TG4’s interns highlighted their views and aspirations on the future of the Irish language to the Oireachtas Committee on the Irish Language, Gaeltacht and Irish Speaking Community in Leinster House on Wednesday.

The Committee is dedicated to promoting the use of Irish as a vernacular language in every aspect of Irish life. One of the interns is a young Tipperary native Chloe Ní Ghríofa who works with the station’s graphics team.

Chloe is a graphic design coordinator at TG4. She is from Cloneen and attended primary school in Cloneen N.S followed by secondary school in Scoil Ruáin, Killenaule.

Despite not attending a Gaelscoil, she furthered her grá for Gaeilge outside of the classroom by attending Gaeltacht summer courses in Ros Muc and Ráth Chairn.

During her four years at Trinity College Dublin, Chloe studied Irish and French. She served as treasurer of An Cumann Gaelach and participated in the Irish Language Residency Scheme (An Scéim Cónaithe), deepening her understanding and appreciation of the language.

Chloe also gained practical experience with Irish language use through her part-time job in An Siopa Leabhar, which further fueled her passion for a career centered around the Irish language.

Through her participation in the TG4 internship programme, Chloe says she has embraced the opportunity to hone her skills in Graphic Design and that it is a privilege to be a member of such a talented and inspiring team.

Chloe had the opportunity to meet with local Tipperary politicians in Leinster House during her visit including Independent TD Mattie McGrath and Fine Gael Senator Garret Ahearn.
