U2 star in a surprise visit to Tipperary

Adam Clayton with staff at The Source theatre

The Source theatre staff in Thurles were in for a real treat on Saturday 20th April when they were informed of some special guests who were on their way to see Sharon Shannon in concert. Adam Clayton bassist with the rock band U2 and Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle made their way to Thurles to enjoy a spellbinding performance by Sharon Shannon.

There was great excitement in the building amongst staff. Both of our esteemed guests sat in amongst the general public who seemed oblivious as to who was sitting beside them.  During the interval both Adam Clayton and Frankie Boyle made their way to the green room to meet Sharon Shannon.

After this interlude staff availed of the opportunity to grab some photos. Both were very complimentary of the venue and commented at how relaxing it was to be in the audience. Sharon Shannon gave a stellar performance as always. She proclaimed, “We’re going to play some jigs,” , with a massive grin, and that’s exactly what she did,  immediately showing quite how fast her right hand and fingers can be, tumbling over the buttons. Jigs were interspersed with haunting melodies. All in all, it was an amazing gig. We were delighted in The Source to be fortunate enough to host such big names in the music and comedy industries.
